November 16, 2013 is the 4th anniversary of Shenzhen China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT). In the afternoon, CSOT held a higher generation flat display products show at its Guangming Plant, also as part of the show of the 15th China High-Tech Fair (CHTF) and announced the official kick-off of Phase II Project construction.
TCL Group Chairman and CEO Li Dongsheng, who also acts as Chairman for CSOT, briefed the guests and visitors on the achievements and future plan of CSOT. Guest speakers include Vice Minister of State Development and Reform Commission Zhang Xiaoqiang, Vice Minister of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Yang Xueshan, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province Liu Zhigeng, Mayor of Shenzhen Xu Qin, and Member of Chinese Academy of Science Ouyang Zhongcan. The ceremony was chaired by TCL Group President and CSOT CEO Bo Lianming.
With a total investment of RMB24.4 billion, Phase II Project is to be built on the reserved land next to Phase I plant in Guangming. The design capacity is 100,000 sheets, including 70,000 amorphous silicon semiconductor glass sheets and 30,000 oxide semiconductor glass sheets (including some AMOLED sheets). The production of oxide semiconductor glass sheets (including some AMOLED sheets) is flexible responsive to market needs. The company aims to keep on development of new products and new technology and a number of new products and new technologies have realized substantial improvements and are to be imported into Phase II project, including GOA, COA, CU process, IGZO, AMOLED, LTPS and curved surface display. In addition, advanced cutting technology will be employed to uplift the proportion of larger size sheets and UD products. The company is optimistic in a broader product line and stronger profit-making capacity.
The achievements show consists of three parts to present an overview of the company in the past four years and showcased a full range of products and technological achievements. The visitors were impressed with the encouraging achievements. Vice Minister Yang Xueshan of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology made the comment that flat display industry is listed as an encouraged sector in further industrial development. CSOT has achieved great success and set a fine example in industrial upgrading in the Pearl River Delta region and even the whole country at large. CSOT has been attaching top priority to R&D work and keeps pace with the technical development for next generation display technology. The company has made due contribution in leading the flat-panel display industry in China from lower-end manufacturing to higher end production. Core technology is the key.
Vice Governor of Guangdong Liu pointed out that The Reform & Development Scheme for the Pearl River Delta Region puts due emphasis on technical innovation. Liu expressed his appreciation of CSOT on this aspect and encouraged the company to make further breakthroughs in technical innovation and production capacity.
Ouyang stated at the meeting that China is the largest single market for TV products in the world and the market demands keep rising rapidly, especially for LCD products. The living room is getting larger and larger, the TV screen gets larger and larger, and the needs for larger LCD panel keep increasing. It is a strategic move for CSOT to expand production capacity to respond to further market needs and state industrial development policy. In addition, Ouyang showed his appreciation of CSOT in focusing on R&D and independent technical innovation, especially the substantial input in next generation technology, so as to effectively avoid the potential risks of getting-out in the next round of technical upgrading. Looking forward to the future, CSOT will continue to adhere to independent technical innovation and work hard to keep pace with the times. Based on the achievements the company has gained, CSOT shall further strengthen its R&D and business operation to maker further breakthroughs in technical innovation and production scale. Ouyang wished all his best to CSOT Phase II Project and hoped CSOT to make further contributions to the flat display industry in China.
TCL Chairman Li stated at the meeting that ever since its establishment, CSOT has been hold on to two basic principles of innovation and hard work. With hard efforts during the past four years, CSOT has reached or surpassed the mean level in indicators of speed, quality, and efficiency in global panel making industry. Li recalled that facing a slow market in 2009, TCL made the decision to launch CSOT project so as to guarantee a stable supply of LCD panel to Chinese TV makers and terminate the reliance on imported panels. The success of CSOT is of strategic significance to the industrial upgrading of TV-making industry in China. Four years later, CSOT now started its Phase II construction to match the industrial development in the flat panel TV sector. CSOT Phase II Project will import OLED panel technology and set industrial layout in advance to embrace the next generation upgrading in the industry. The project is of strategic significance to the panel making industry in China.
