TCL Candlelight Award for Hope Program initiated
Currently there are more than 8 million teachers working in rural and remote villages across the country, shouldering the compulsory education for some 66 million children living in the countryside. They live a simple life and work hard. Rooted in the villages, they make great contribution to the cause of education in China. “TCL Candlelight Award for Hope Program” aims to award outstanding rural teachers through a nationwide selection to promote their dedication to education. These respected people enlighten the dream of the village children and guide them to learn and grow. To honor these people can also encourage more teachers to choose to go to teach in villages and contribute love to village kids.
The campaign will last for six months. The branches of China Youth Development Foundation in each province recommend candidates and the review board will come out with a short list of 300 nominees, who will receive an award of RMB12,000 each from TCL Public Welfare Fund. Then through a netizen poll, “Top 10 Village Teachers” will be finalized. Some supplementary awarding and honorary certificates will be given to qualified nominees. TCL Aopeng Education will provide educational resources for rural teachers and organize training seminars on teaching skills and experience sharing.
TCL Public Fund and China Youth Development Foundation plan to work closely with more public and private organizations and businesses to build this award into an influential brand in public welfare so as to encourage more extensive participation in social welfare and more attention on and support to these village teachers.
The review board for TCL Candlelight Award for Hope Program consists of representatives of China Youth Development Foundation secretariat, TCL Public Welfare Fund, educational experts, senior social worker, and media reporter. At the Starting Ceremony, Vice Secretary General of China Youth Development Foundation Yao Wen and Secretary-General of TCL Public Welfare Fund Liang Qichun presented certificates of review board for TCL Candlelight Award for Hope Program to the board members respectively.
